Transport in Birmingham

There are three train stations in central Birmingham – Birmingham New Street, Birmingham Moor Street and Birmingham Snow Hill. The main station is Birmingham New Street, with routes including services to popular cities like London, Liverpool, and Edinburgh.

When it comes to getting around Birmingham, you can travel by both bus and tram, with certain services taking you all the way to the neighbouring Wolverhampton.

With the M5, the M6 and the M40 all passing through Birmingham, the likes of Manchester, Bristol and Coventry are all easy to get to too.

Birmingham also has its own international airport too.

Shopping in Birmingham

The largest shopping centre in Birmingham, and one of the largest across Europe, is the Bullring and Grand Central Shopping Centre, which houses over 160 shops and eateries under one roof.

The shopping centre is also known for the Bull Ring Markets. These include the Bull Ring Indoor Market, where you can buy fresh fish and other locally sourced foods, and the Bull Ring Rag Market, which sells various crafts and gift items.

Just outside the shopping centre, you’ll find a massive Primark – the largest in the world – with Birmingham New Street just a short walk away, offering a wide selection of retail outlets, including The Arcadian as well as the Great Western Arcade.

Birmingham is also home to one of the best farmers’ markets in the UK – The Moseley Farmers Market – which earned the prestigious distinction in 2023.

Things to do in Birmingham

Birmingham was recently voted one of the greenest cities in Europe and is home to one of Europe’s largest urban parks and nature reserves – Sutton Park.

Birmingham also offers locals the beautiful Botanical Gardens as well as the Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park.

In terms of live entertainment, Birmingham’s Hippodrome and Symphony Hall put on hundreds of shows a year.

Birmingham also has a wide selection of museums, including the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Blakesley Hall Museum, The Coffin Works, and Thinktank.

Birmingham is also home to the Legoland Discovery Centre, which features an indoor playground with rides, a soft play area, and more. There’s also The National SEA LIFE Centre too.

Harborne

Harborne is home to some of the best restaurants in the city, including the Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded Tropea and Harborne Kitchen. The suburb is less than 30 minutes from central Birmingham and is a highly in-demand suburb.
