Getting to and from Wilstead

Wilstead is a well-connected Bedfordshire village, making it easy to travel for work, leisure and everything in between. Our new homes are within walking distance of the village centre, placing everyday amenities within easy reach.

The village also sits alongside the A6 for straightforward routes north towards Bedford and south to Luton, while the nearby A421 offers convenient links across the region, connecting residents with destinations such as Milton Keynes and Cambridge.

For rail travel, Bedford railway station is around a 15-minute drive away, offering regular Thameslink and East Midlands Railway services to St Albans, London St Pancras and Brighton. Flitwick railway station can also be reached in approximately 20 minutes.

For journeys further afield, London Luton Airport is around 40 minutes away by car, providing a wide choice of domestic and international flights across Europe.

Healthcare services are also within easy reach, with London Road Surgery and The Vale Medical Practice serving the surrounding area. Bedford Hospital and Putnoe Walk-In Centre can both be reached in around 20 minutes, providing access to a broad range of healthcare services.

• Wilstead Primary School  – Part of HEARTS Academy Trust, this popular village primary school promotes values-based learning and aims to help children become confident, independent learners through a supportive and caring environment.
• Cotton End Forest School – This nursery and primary school is situated in the neighbouring village of Cotton End. Providing education for children aged 2–11, this unique nursery and primary school combines classroom learning with regular outdoor experiences through its distinctive Forest School approach.

Secondary and further education options include:

• Wixams Academy – This co-educational secondary school and sixth form is around 5 minutes’ drive from our development and offers GCSEs, A Levels and vocational courses for pupils between 11–18 years old.

Families can also enjoy memorable days out at Summerfields Miniature Railways, Shuttleworth with its historic aircraft and airshows, and Woburn Safari Park, all within 20 minutes’ drive.

History and nature are never far away. Local landmarks including Houghton House and Wrest Park offer fascinating glimpses into the area's rich past, while The Forest Centre at Millennium Country Park and Clophill Lakes Nature Reserve provide scenic walking trails, peaceful lakes and abundant wildlife.
