Transport in Wolverhampton  

Wolverhampton Railway Station is located near the city centre. It offers services to cities such as London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, and even Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland. Just outside the train station, you’ll find a bus and West Midlands Metro tram stop, which makes getting around the city and further afield easy.  

With the M6 motorway near Wolverhampton, travelling to nearby places like Telford as well as up north to Birmingham by car is fairly straightforward too. The city also features a dual carriageway that circumnavigates the city centre and connects to other A roads.  

Shopping in Wolverhampton   

The largest shopping centre in Wolverhampton is the Mander Centre, which is home to over 70 major brands, including H&M and New Look. Located adjacent to the Mander Centre, you’ll find The Wulfrun Centre, which also offers a number of high street stores too. 

Wolverhampton’s main high street, Dudley Street, boasts several independent stores as well as a nice selection of restaurants and cafes too.  

There’s also an outdoor market in Wolverhampton that takes place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at Cleveland Street.  

Here, you’ll find a number of traders selling fresh produce and artisan goods.  

Another market takes place on Dudley Street on every first and third Friday of the month.  

Less than 15 minutes' drive away, you'll find Bentley Bridge Retail Park, which, alongside several family-friendly restaurants, also offers a bowling alley and a Cineworld.  

Things to do in Wolverhampton  

Located north of the city, Northycote Farm and Country Park is the perfect day out, especially if you have little ones. With a petting zoo as well as an outdoor play area in the neighbouring forest, the kids will love it. 

Within the city itself, you’ll find West Park. This Victorian municipal park has a conservatory, a lake, a play area, as well as various sports facilities. 

Then, in terms of the city’s cultural scene, you can visit the Wolverhampton Art Gallery or the Bantock House Museum, or catch a show at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre

Touring musicians and comedians will usually pop by the Wolverhampton Halls so it’s always worth keeping an eye on the monthly lineup to make sure you don’t miss your favourite act.

The historic village of Tettenhall is situated in the northwest of Wolverhampton and is only 10 minutes’ drive from the city centre. 

This sought-after area has plenty of green spaces, including Tettenhall Green, and cute local shops, which is what residents love about it. With numerous excellent schools in the area, this is the ideal location for families with children.  

Penn 

In the southwest of Wolverhampton lies Penn. About 15 minutes’ drive from the city centre, Penn offers a tranquil atmosphere, with the area one of the quieter ones around Wolverhampton. A key feature of Wolverhampton is the Windsor Avenue Playing Fields, a favourite of the local community. 

Merry Hill 

Also, in the southwest, you’ll find Merry Hill, located between Penn and Tettenhall. This area enjoys easy access to both the A4123 and the A449 – making it particularly ideal for those looking to regularly commute between Birmingham and Wolverhampton. It takes about an hour to get to Birmingham via one of these A roads.  

Merry Hill is also about 10 minutes’ drive from Wolverhampton’s city centre.
