Getting to and from Cottam
Edith Rigby Way provides a direct route to the M55 for journeys towards Blackpool and the Lake District, while the nearby M6 connects residents of our new homes with major cities, including Manchester (1 hour), Liverpool (1 hour 10 minutes) and Birmingham (2 hours). Within easy reach of our new Cottam development, Preston train station is just a 15-minute drive away, in the city centre. From here, you can catch regular services to the likes of Manchester (35 minutes) and Liverpool (50 minutes), as well as routes into Birmingham (1 hour 50 minutes) and London Euston (2 hours 10 minutes). Local bus services operate throughout the area, offering regular routes into Preston city centre as well as nearby destinations including Kirkham, Lytham and Blackpool. Manchester Airport is also around an hour’s drive away.
Things to do in Cottam
Tesco Express is within walking distance of Tabley Gate, while Sainsbury’s Local and a larger Morrisons supermarket are just a short drive away.
Families and dog walkers living in our new homes can enjoy nearby green spaces, with play areas and natural ponds incorporated within the Cottam development itself.
For fitness and leisure, Fulwood Leisure Centre is only 10 minutes’ drive away and offers a swimming pool as well as a wide range of fitness classes. The Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Football Club is around 10 minutes’ drive away too.
If you fancy going out for dinner, the Maxy Farm pub and restaurant is just across the road from our new builds, with the famous Cottam pub being a firm favourite amongst locals and for good reason. The pub serves everything from brunch and Sunday roasts to sweet treats and a range of coffees and wines.
We’re also just a 5-minute drive from the North Preston Medical Practice.
Popular schools in Cottam
Families with young children are well catered for, with several nurseries and local primary schools within easy reach of our new homes in Cottam:
- Cottam Nursery School - Providing early years education for children aged 3–4, this nursery is ideally located within 15 minutes' walk of our development
- Cottam Primary School - This well-regarded local primary school caters for children aged 4–11. A convenient choice for families living in our new homes, it’s less than 5 minutes’ drive from our Cottam development.
- Pool House Community Primary School - A community-focused primary school for children aged 4–11, Pool House Primary is located in Ashton, just 10 minutes’ drive away.
- Ashton Primary - Another local option around 10 minutes from our new homes, this school welcomes pupils aged 4–11.
For students who are advancing into secondary education, there are a couple of well-regarded schools, both within 10 minutes of Tabley Gate:
- Our Lady’s Catholic High School - This faith-based secondary school, located in Fulwood, is open to students aged 11–16.
- Broughton High School - Situated in Broughton village, this school offers secondary education for students aged 11–16.
For older students and adult learners, Preston offers excellent access to further and higher education:
- Preston College - This college offers a wide range of A-levels, vocational courses, apprenticeships, and technical qualifications for students aged 16 and over. The campus is around 15 minutes’ drive from our new builds in Cottam.
- Cardinal Newman College - A popular sixth-form college for students aged 16–19 located in the city centre, around 15 minutes away.
- Myerscough College - Specialising in land-based subjects including agricultural, animal care, horticulture, and sport, Myerscough College educates students aged 16 and older. The main campus is just a 20-minute drive away.
- University of Lancashire - One of the UK’s largest universities, UCLan offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from its Preston campus, situated just 15 minutes from our new homes in Cottam.
Living in Preston
Those living in our new build homes in Cottam benefit from Preston’s range of amenities, including St George’s Shopping Centre. Just 20 minutes’ drive away, it’s located in the city alongside a wide choice of cafés and restaurants serving cuisines from around the world.
The city is also a hub of cultural attractions, including The Harris Art Museum and the Lancashire Infantry Museum, both 15 minutes from our Tabley Gate development. Train enthusiasts can also enjoy rides on the Ribble Steam Railway, offering a glimpse into the area’s industrial past.
There are also several sport and leisure options in Preston, including The Preston Golf Club & Driving Range and Deepdale Stadium - home of Preston North End – both around 15 minutes’ drive from our new build homes.
Families in Cottam are also spoiled for choice, with many popular attractions for all ages within easy reach, including the Wacky World Inflatable Park, the Flip Out Trampoline Park and a whole host of bowling alleys and cinemas in the city centre.
Living in Preston also means having the choice of several nature parks and green spaces, with many located within 20 minutes of our new houses in Cottam. Close to the city centre, Avenham and Miller Parks offer beautifully landscaped gardens beside the River Ribble. Nearby, Preston Cuerden Valley Park also offers woodland walks, waterways and cycling routes. And, of course, there are the scenic walking paths that run along the Preston Marina.
