Getting to and from Littleborough

Littleborough benefits from convenient road and rail links, helping residents travel around the area and commute into nearby cities.

The M62 runs through the town, providing a major connection into Huddersfield (40 minutes), Leeds (50 minutes), and Manchester via the M60 (50 minutes).

The town is supported by two train stations, Littleborough and Smithy Bridge. For those living in our new homes, Littleborough is the closest at just 10 minutes’ walk away, while Smithy Bridge is around a 10-minute drive. Both stations offer direct services to Manchester Victoria (25 minutes) and Leeds (1 hour 10 minutes), where commuters can change for routes into Liverpool (1 hour 10 minutes), Birmingham (from 2 hours 30 minutes) and London (from 2 hours 50 minutes).

Locals can access the Milnrow tram stop (8 minutes) or Rochdale tram stop (15 minutes) to catch the Metrolink into and around Greater Manchester.

The local bus station is located at Smithy Bridge where residents can catch regular bus services around Littleborough.

Things to do in Littleborough

Our new homes in Littleborough are well catered for with local town amenities. Around 1 mile away, Co-op and Lidl stores provide convenient shopping options, while nearby Rochdale is home to more supermarkets, including Morrisons, Marks & Spencer, Aldi and Tesco.

Littleborough provides a good range of independent gift shops, barbers and newsagents, with many located along Hare Hill Road. As for local dining, both the town centre and the area around Hollingworth Lake provide a number of options, all within a 10-minute walk. The Waterside restaurant, The Wine Press gastropub, Woodlands Café and Riva Italian are some of the options closest to our development.

As for sports and leisure, our new homes are 10 minutes’ walk from the Littleborough Boxing and Fitness Club, and 25 minutes’ walk from the local Littleborough Sports Centre or the Life Without Limits gym.

There are three local GP surgeries all located less than 10 minutes’ drive from our new build homes. The Village Medical Centre, Trinity Medical Centre and Pennine Surgery are all located in Littleborough, while the Rochdale Infirmary (20 minutes’ drive) is the closest Urgent Treatment Centre.

  • Wardle Academy – Just over three miles from Hollingworth Rise, Wardle Academy is a welcoming secondary school for students aged 11-16. It offers a broad curriculum alongside enrichment opportunities across arts, sports and technology.
  • Kingsway Park High School – Catering to students aged 11-16, this school provides a curriculum designed to build achievement in academic and vocational pathways. Located in nearby Rochdale, it’s less than a 20-minute drive from our new builds in Littleborough.

Thanks to its convenient location on the edge of Greater Manchester, Littleborough has several nearby opportunities for higher education.

  • Hopwood Hall College – Designed to prepare learners aged 16 and over for employment or higher education, this college offers a wide range of vocational and technical pathways. Of its two campuses, Rochdale is closest, being around 20 minutes’ drive away.

Littleborough is within reach of several universities, including the University of Huddersfield, the University of Leeds and Manchester Metropolitan University, all of which are less than an hour’s drive away.

There’s also much to do onshore too, with the surrounding countryside featuring Whittaker Wood, and both Whittaker Golf Club and Littleborough Cricket Club being nearby.

Positioned on the edge of the South Pennines, Littleborough also offers access to scenic walking and cycling routes just outside of town, with popular destinations such as Blackstone Edge and Piethorne Valley, both known for their sweeping views.
