Popular schools in Dawlish
Our Dawlish View development is situated within minutes of some great schools.
Gatehouse Primary Academy is a short 10 minute walk away from our new homes. Accepting children ages 4-11, the school received a Good rating during its most recent Ofsted inspection, in 2022.
Nestled in a forest, the school’s rural location means it benefits from a vast amount of outdoor space, with the school owning fields that stretch a considerable distance. This allows students to take advantage of multiple playgrounds, their very own growing garden and a wildlife and pond area.
There's also a lovely specialist secondary school, which specialises in working with kids with special needs, just 11 minutes’ walk away from Dawlish View.
Oakwood Specialist College, recipient of the National Autistic Society’s Autism Specialist Award in 2023, provides children with a supportive environment that encourages them to look beyond any doubts they may have about their potential as well as actually enjoy school.
The school also received a “Good” rating as of its most recent Ofsted inspection in 2018.
Other schools in the area include West Cliff Primary Academy, an 8 minute drive away, and Our Lady & St Patrick’s Nursery & Primary School, a 13 minute drive away.
Living in Dawlish
A seaside resort town in South Devon, Dawlish is the perfect place to live for those who love the beach. With a pleasant coastal stream, Dawlish Water, flowing throughout the town, Dawlish is also a pleasure to walk through too.
The town sits about 12 miles from both Exeter and Torquay, and, aside from its beachside views, is known for its amusement centres – including the Pavilion and the Harrisons Amusements – and its amusement parks – being home to Funder Park.
The town’s fun energy makes it the perfect place to raise a young family. Having the beach right on your doorstep is quite the plus for anyone with young kids or pets.
Nearby Exeter also has plenty to offer, with its popular galleries, like the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, and its cultural hubs, namely the Exeter Phoenix, which not only offers a theatre, but a cinema, a concert venue and a creative workshop too.
Dawlish’s other neighbour, Torquay, also has its fair share of family friendly attractions. There’s Babbacombe Model Village which features miniature versions of a number of famous landmarks, Bygones – an impressive museum celebrating British heritage and, of course, the popular Dinosaur World.
