Congleton is the midway point between Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester, neighbouring areas such as Macclesfield and Crewe. Transport in Congleton
Those living in Congleton benefit from quick access to the M6, just a 10-minute drive down the A534. Using the motorway, you can reach Warrington in 35 minutes, Stoke-on-Trent in 22 minutes, and Birmingham in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Using Congleton’s A-roads, you can get to Crewe, Macclesfield, and the Peak District in just over 20 minutes, and Crewe’s railway interchange is only a 25-minute drive away. From here, regular trains run to Manchester Piccadilly, Chester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow, and London stations, as well as various other destinations across the UK.

Congleton has two retail parks at West Heath and the Clayton Bypass. These parks contain big-name stores such as Halfords, Tesco and Aldi, while more independent and high-street stores are located along Mill Street and Bridge Street.
For retail therapy, you can drive 30 minutes to The Potteries in Stoke, where high street shops include JD Sports, New Look and H. Samuel.
Things to do in Congleton
Aside from the town’s range of exciting festivals that are run throughout the year, Congleton is also home to Astbury Mere Country Park. Known as a local ‘jewel’, it offers picturesque walking trails around the lake, a water sports centre and angling opportunities.
Within a short drive of Congleton, you’ll also find Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve, Lovell Quinta Arboretum and the National Trust’s Biddulph Grange Garden, providing plenty of outdoor spaces to explore.
On weekends and holidays, you can try out the many bars and food vendors at the Congleton Market Quarter or take your family to the Congleton Museum in the town centre. A 20-minute drive to Macclesfield also allows you to visit the Silk Museum or Jodrell Bank - a telescope and science centre perfect for families. Buglawton is a small neighbourhood in eastern Congleton, bordering Havannah to the north and the town centre to the southwest. Buglawton also offers direct access to the Cheshire countryside along Buxton Road.

A small village located 8 minutes’ drive away from central Congleton, Brereton Heath is a popular residential area due to its green spaces and parks. The Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve is a small waterside reserve perfect for birdwatching, while the Lovell Quinta Arboretum is a 12-minute drive away and is a lovely place to walk. The Somerford Park Farm equestrian centre has arenas and countryside hacks available for booking.
