Transport in Cheshire

With over 30 of its stations part of the National Rail, Cheshire is a particularly well-connected county.  

Its largest station can be found in Crewe, a 12-platform station where commuters can catch trains to the likes of London, Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham.  

It should be noted that towns like Wilmslow and Macclesfield also sit on the Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston route, making it easy to get to either major UK city.  

Shopping in Cheshire

Cheshire is home to the UK’s largest designer outlet shopping centre - Cheshire Oaks - located just north of Chester in Ellesmere Port. A few on-site brand stores include Crocs, Lululemon, BOSS, Calvin Klein, Cadbury, and Puma.  

Cheshire also has a thriving market culture, including the indoor market hosted by its county town, Chester, Tuesdays to Sundays. There’s also the popular Warrington Market which is open from Monday to Saturday, and the Knutsford Maker’s Market, which takes place once a month, on Sundays. 

Things to do in Cheshire

Cheshire has a number of popular attractions although perhaps none are as famous as Chester Zoo - one of the UK’s largest zoos.  

Located just north of Chester, the zoo hosts Andean Bears, Painted Dogs, Bush Dogs, and Giant Otters, alongside butterfly, bat, and reptile exhibits.  

Gulliver’s World is the largest theme park in the county and is situated in Warrington.  

Outdoor attractions include the Tatton Estate in Altrincham. There’s also Lyme Park which sits on the edge of the Peak District.  

History enthusiasts can visit the Chester City Walls, the Roman Amphitheatre, and the Roman gardens in Chester.

Located close to the southern border of Cheshire, Congleton is just a short drive from Stoke-on-Trent.  

Its excellent transport links and proximity to two major universities (Keele and Staffordshire) as well as to the shopping town of Macclesfield make it a highly practical option for many.  

The fact it’s only minutes away from the Peak District only adds to its appeal.

Cheadle

With one foot in the door of Greater Manchester, Cheadle technically sits within Greater Manchester but is considered part of the county of Cheshire.  

However, being connected to Manchester’s Bee Network – an integrated transport system operated by Manchester’s city council, that incorporates a wide number of tram, bus and train routes - does mean that it couldn’t be easier to travel in and out of Manchester City Centre.
