Getting to and from Totton

There’s a direct train from Totton to both London Waterloo and Euston, with services to Waterloo taking a little over an hour and a half and services to Euston taking a little over 2 hours. 

There are also 4 trains a day that run from Totton to Edinburgh. 

Locals can reach neighbouring Southampton by either bus or train, with a train from Totton taking about 10 minutes to get into the city. 

Things to do in Totton

As part of the New Forest district, Totton has a fair few nature reserves to explore, including the popular New Forest National Park, as well as the Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve and the Lower Test Valley and River Test, with its many scenic hiking trails. 

In the town centre, on Commercial Road, you’ll find the Totton Shopping Centre, housing brands like Boots, Specsavers, Costa, Barclays, and Nationwide.  

On the same road you’ll also find the Totton Retail Park, which counts, amongst its many stores, a Lidl and an Argos, as well as the well-known pets supplies brand – Jollyes. 

Then there’s neighbouring Southampton just a stone’s throw away, with its many family-friendly attractions, including the SeaCity Museum, the Solent Sky Museum, as well as the popular amusement park – The Pleasure Park – which, alongside a large selection of rides, also offers visitors the opportunity to play mini-golf or go boating.    

The main shopping centre in Southampton is the West Quay Shopping Centre, housing several high street names including the likes of Zara, H&M, The Body Shop, Claires, as well as an Apple Store outlet, an EE outlet and a Carphone Warehouse, plus a 10-screen cinema, a food court and a bowling alley. 

Popular schools in Totton

Primary schools in Totton include: 

Calmore Junior School – less than a mile from our development, Calmore Junior School is a primary school catering to children between the ages of 7 and 11. The school also has a partner nursery – the Calmore Infant School – which accepts children from as young as 4 up until 7.  

Oakfield Academy – a little over a mile away, Oakfield Academy prides itself as a school “with a difference, that makes a difference” – with the school’s renowned “Forest curriculum” creating an environment where students can find a way to learn that works for them. The school caters for children between the ages of 9 and 13. 

Abbotswood Junior School – about 3 miles from our development, Abbotswood Junior School is one of the larger schools in the area and one with a rich legacy, having served the local Totton area since the 1930s. The school caters for children between the ages of 7 and 11. 

In terms of higher education options, there’s:

Testwood School – Situated about 1.3 miles from our development, the school caters for children between the ages of 11 and 16. The school was converted into an academy in 2011. 

Hounsdown School – A secondary school that gained science college status in 2005, Hounsdown is a secondary school about 2.7 miles from our development, that caters to children between the ages of 11 and 16. The school also has its very own organic garden, developed in-part by its pupils, that sit behind the school’s drama and sports hall. 

There’s also an early years foundation school, about a mile and a half from our development, called Hazel Wood Infant School, which caters to children between the ages of 3 and 7. 

Living in Totton

Ideally placed for those after more rural surroundings, Totton’s proximity to the New Forest has made it particularly attractive to nature lovers. 

The town is home to several pubs and independent cafés, with a number of community centres to enjoy too. 

There’s the Totton Health and Leisure Centre, on Water Lane, which offers locals a 25m swimming pool, as well as a gym, badminton and tennis courts, a dance studio, as well as a multi-purpose sports hall. 

Then there’s the West Totton Community Centre, on Hazel Farm Road, which also offers a space to play tennis, as well as other sports like squash, pickleball and table tennis.
