The Area Topsham in Devon

Local area near Seabrook Orchards in Topsham

Whatever your tastes, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to wining and dining in Topsham and the surrounding area.

The town itself boasts a wonderful selection of cafes, tearooms, bistros, restaurants and pubs, many with pretty gardens and terraces offering views over the stunning Exe Estuary. Seafood, as you would expect, is a speciality in this region so a trip to The Oliva Restaurant and the Galley are a must. The Fish Shed at nearby Darts Farm is also worth a visit as it is widely thought to be one of the best Fish and Chip shops and wet fishmonger’s in the country.

There are plenty of other local delicacies on offer at the Saturday morning market in Matthews Hall too; from regional cheeses, locally reared meat, wine, ale and cider produced in the area. Once a month, Matthews Hall also hosts the Topsham Slow Food Market where artisan food and drink can be tasted and taken home.

Cycle or walk along the Exe Estuary Trail to enjoy stunning views of the estuary and its abundance of wildlife or, take a relaxing 15 minute trip aboard the Topsham Ferry to The Turf. This historic lock-keeper’s inn is situated in a protected area of outstanding natural beauty and is one of the few pubs in the country not accessible by road. In the warm summer months, enjoy a refreshing dip in Topsham’s open-air swimming pool, or spend a fun-packed day at Crealy Great Adventure Park, voted Devon’s best family attraction and just a handy 10 minute drive away. For something really different, visit nearby Ottery St Mary on Bonfire Night to see the famous Flaming Tar Barrels being carried through the town.

Topsham is an idyllic place to live, learn and discover and families moving to Seabrook Orchards have a number of choices when it comes to education. The Topsham School, Lady Seaward's Church of England Primary School and Countess Wear Community School all cater for children up to 11 years of age. At Seabrook Orchards, however, there will also be a dedicated new Primary School within walking distance of our new homes. For older children, St Peter’s Church of England Aided School is a popular choice for many families in the area and for A-levels, many students move on to Exeter College. There are a number of private schools locally, including The Exeter School and Exeter Cathedral School and, less than five miles away you’ll find Exeter University which is consistently ranked among the top ten universities in the country and is now a member of the Russell Group of leading research-intensive UK universities.
