Getting to and from Spondon

Spondon is well connected for both road and rail travel, making it ideal for commuters and city explorers alike. The A52 runs through the village, connecting Derby and Nottingham, and providing easy access to the M1 within 10 minutes. Using this motorway, residents can travel north to Sheffield (1 hour 10 minutes) or south to Leicester (50 minutes).

The village also has its own railway station just a 5-minute drive from our new homes, with regular services running from Spondon into Derby city centre and Nottingham within half an hour.

For travel closer to home, Spondon is well-served by bus routes linking the village to nearby areas such as Chaddesden, Alvaston and the wider Derby region. Fawndale Rise benefits from a bus stop just a one-minute walk from our development, providing residents of our new homes with easily accessible public transport.

Things to do in Spondon

Spondon offers all the essential amenities close to home, including local shops such as the Co-op and large Asda Superstore, along with well-regarded schools and excellent transport links.

Our new homes in Spondon are surrounded by fields, woodlands and established cycle routes, offering scenic paths across the village and convenient connections to Chaddesden, Alvaston and the nearby city of Derby. The Spondon Allotments are a peaceful community spot where residents can garden, meet neighbours and enjoy the outdoors.

Local food and drink spots include The Vernon Arms in the heart of the village. This traditional pub is known for its Sunday roasts, regular live music and quiz nights. Nearby, The Hoptimist offers an ever-changing selection of local and regional beers, and occasional street-food pop ups, while The Apple Tree is an award-winning teashop, bakery and gift shop located in the neighbouring village of Ockbrook.

Spondon is also well-served by local GPs at Chapel Street Medical Centre within a few minutes’ drive of our new builds, while the nearest hospital is the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital in Derby, around 15 minutes away.

• Borrow Wood Primary School – Located in the heart of Spondon, just 15-minutes’ walk away, this primary academy is the closest school to our Fawndale Rise development. It offers nursery and primary places for children aged 3-11 and provides an inclusive approach to special education needs.
• Redhill Primary School – In neighbouring Ockbrook, just a 5-minute drive away, this Ofsted-rated Outstanding primary school offers classes for children aged 5-11. The well-rounded curriculum teaches academic subjects while putting emphasis on pupils’ well-being and mental health.
• Ashbrook Infant & Junior School – From Spondon, the Ashbrook schools in Borrowash, Derbyshire, are just a 5-minute drive away. For those aged 3-7, the infant school offers a nurturing start to early education. Children can then advance to the junior school on the same site for school years 3-6, where they’ll receive a broad education across core subjects and enrichment activities.
• West Park Secondary School – Just a few minutes from our new build homes, this secondary academy serves children aged 11-16 in Spondon and the local Derby area. Living in Spondon

For those who enjoy spending time outdoors, Spondon offers a variety of options for all the family. This village is home to the West Park Meadow Nature Reserve, as well as several parks, including Brunswood Park, Borrow Wood Park and Spondon Park – all providing plenty of walking routes, picnic spots and play areas for residents of our new homes.

With both Spondon Dynamos FC and Spondon Cricket Club, there is a strong sporting community in the village, while the driving range at Derby Golf Centre is also nearby.

In the countryside surrounding Spondon, you’ll find Bluebell Dairy Ice Cream Farm. With animals, activities, a café, and their famous artisan ice-cream, it’s a perfect spot for family days out. Just off the same road as our Fawndale Rise development, you’ll find the Locko Park country estate with a lake, gardens and a dog-friendly walking field. For more historic landscapes to explore, the National Trust’s Kedleston Hall and expansive Allestree Park and Gardens are both less than 30 minutes’ drive away from our new homes. The Ockbrook Bridleway also runs close by, offering a peaceful route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

Living in Spondon means being just minutes away from Derby and its range of city amenities. The Derbion is a shopping and entertainment centre just a 10-minute drive from our development, with a range of high-street stores and over 40 dining options. Derby also has several major entertainment venues, including Derby Arena with scheduled events, sport facilities and classes, Pride Park Stadium and the Derby QUAD, where you can catch live theatre and a varied cinema programme. Elsewhere in the city, you’ll find cultural spots such as the Derby Museum & Art Gallery and The Museum of Making.
