Transport in Stoke on Trent

Several trains pass through Stoke on Trent, including services that get you into Birmingham and Manchester in under an hour. The town of Crewe is also about 20 minutes away by train.  

The M6 also runs through Stoke on Trent, connecting the city to the likes of Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester. There are also several A roads that run throughout the city, offering easy routes to the likes of Shrewsbury, Knutsford and Leek.  

Shopping in Stoke on Trent

The Potteries is Stoke on Trent's main shopping centre.  

Featuring about 90 retailers, The Potteries houses brands like Beaverbrook’s, Claire’s, and Pandora, as well as hobby shops like Game.  

Stoke on Trent also has a popular indoor market, where you can buy meat fresh from the butchers, deli food, homeware, and clothes.  

There's also the Rode Hall Farmers Market, about 18 minutes' drive from the city centre, where over 70 traders are able to showcase their fresh produce and their handmade crafts. 

Things to do in Stoke on Trent

Stoke on Trent is only half an hour away from Alton Towers and, within the city itself, you'll find several pottery and other crafts museums, including the various displays on offer at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, the bottle kilns showcased at the Gladstone Pottery Museums, and the working machines on display at the Etruria Industrial Museum.  

The Apedale Valley Light Railway is also worth experiencing. Here you'll have the opportunity to ride vintage engines along a well-preserved heritage track.
