In towns and cities like Stafford, Rugeley, Cannock, Lichfield, and Newcastle-under-Lyme, you’ll find some excellent shopping centres. But at its core, Staffordshire is a county of market towns, with Newcastle-under-Lyme having hosted a market since 1173, with over 80 stalls.  

Then there’s Stafford, which regularly holds street markets in the town centre. We highly recommend, if you’re considering a move to Stafford, to explore the Trentham Shopping Village. A unique outdoor shopping park, Trentham is home to an eclectic mix of independent and high street brands.

Live in the city?

• Stoke-on-Trent – is the northernmost city in Staffordshire. The city is situated between Manchester (an hour drive away) and Birmingham (a 50-minute drive away), with its train station offering direct routes to major other cities like London, Derby and Bristol.

• Lichfield  – is a cathedral city with a very rural feel, being nestled within the Staffordshire countryside. Known for its proximity to the Cannock Chase National Landscape (a 20-minute drive from the city centre), it offers the best of both worlds to people looking to live in the city without losing that cosy hometown feel.

Live in a town?

• Burton-upon-Trent – is ideal for those who love the countryside. With several walking trails and cycling routes to explore, Burton-upon-Trent offers a quieter more community-centric lifestyle, perfect for those looking to raise a young family or escape the bustle of the city. Though slightly removed from city life, it’s certainly easy to get into the city from Burton-upon-Trent, with its train station offering direct services to the likes of Birmingham, Derby and Nottingham.

• Stafford – is well known for its historical landmarks, namely attractions like The Ancient High House – the largest Elizabethan townhouse in the UK – and Stafford Castle. With the rolling hills as a backdrop, this market town is a beautiful place to live and is just a 30-minute drive from Stoke-on-Trent. The town also has its own train stations, with trains getting you into cities like Manchester and Liverpool within an hour.
