Where is Telford?
Telford is situated in East Shropshire, near the River Severn and the Shropshire Hills, with the hill nearest to Telford being The Wrekin.
The town sits just north of Ironbridge, west of Shifnal, south of Hadley, and east of Wellington.
Transport in Telford
The main station that serves Telford is the Telford Central Railway Station. Offering regular and direct services to the likes of Manchester, Birmingham and Wolverhampton, amongst others, the station is situated in the city centre near the Telford Shopping Centre.
There’s also a direct train from Telford to Birmingham International Airport, with a free Air-Rail Link offered that takes you straight to the terminal.
The M54 runs right through Telford and connects the town to the M6 – an extensive motorway with links to various towns and cities across the North of England, North Wales and Scotland, including the city of Birmingham – which is less than an hour’s drive away from Telford.
Shopping in Telford
The largest shopping centre in Telford is The Telford Centre, that’s home to about 160 different shops, restaurants and cafes.
Telford’s Southern Quarter has a reputation for being home to some of the town’s best dining establishments, with its eclectic selection making it a go-to part of town for those enjoying a night out.
There’s also the open-air Telford Forge Retail Park – just a short drive from the town centre – where you’ll find a number of familiar favourites, including the likes of TK Maxx and McDonald’s.
Things to do in Telford
A highlight of the town is the Telford Town Park - a beautiful park home to the much-loved Wonderland Theme Park – with a bunch of family-friendly rides for those with young children to enjoy.
The park also offers a number of nature trails for hikers to explore too.
Telford is also home to a couple of zoos, including the Zoo Wildlife Park – which also houses a Natural History Museum – and the Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World - with its dinosaur-themed play areas and its exciting safari experiences.
Telford, though, is best known for its Ironbridge Gorge – the first cast iron bridge in the world – which stands above the River Severn – the longest river in the UK.
There is also a museum nearby, dedicated to the gorge – The Museum of the Gorge.
