Skills for Life - Bloor Homes announces apprenticeship opportunities across the UK
Bloor Homes has announced the opening of online registration for this year’s intake of new Carpentry and Bricklaying apprentices across the country is at the end of March 2023.
Apprenticeships provide the opportunity for anyone, of any age, to join the business and learn a sought-after trade in the construction industry.
Hannah Burgess, Head of Human Resources at Bloor Homes said: “We’re highlighting that we have opportunities for individuals who want to train with a NHBC five star rated builder, recognised by its customers as Excellent in Trustpilot. We work with 16 partner colleges and training centres around the UK, including the new NHBC Training Hub in Tamworth, to provide excellent training programmes, run by our dedicated Apprentice Masters.
“Carpentry and Bricklaying are skills for life and qualified staff are highly sought after in the industry. Candidates will have the opportunity to train and work in a highly professional organisation, alongside award-winning site teams. They also benefit from our dedicated, professional, and friendly approach to training which enables them to learn and work to our high-quality standards.”
Bloor Homes currently employs 44 carpentry apprentices and 49 bricklaying apprentices across seven of its nine regions, with a further 45 Trainees studying various programmes, mostly Construction & the Built Environment or Quantity Surveying. These latter qualifications could be studied part time or as apprenticeship.
The application process, overseen by the Apprentice Masters and HR teams, includes first and second interviews where parents are also invited to attend, plus two days of work experience on a live construction site.
One young apprentice summed up their experience saying: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Bloor Homes. I was at a bit of a loose end when I started the apprenticeship, but from it I’ve found a trade that I’m enthusiastic about and have gained a good career in. I gained so many skills over the course of the apprenticeship and I’m very great full I got the chance to do it. I’m also very grateful for my Apprentice Master who always went above and beyond to help me progress.”
In addition to running its own programs, Bloor Homes also sponsors the brand new AccExcel College in Cinderford, Gloucestershire, launched in 2021 specifically to train candidates in various areas of construction. It aims to create a new pipeline of talent for the industry and start to tackle the skills shortages it faces. The College’s first intake of apprentices started training in September 2022.
