Bloor homes sponsors first Greenham Common Half Marathon and 10K for charity
Bloor Homes’ Southern region based in Newbury has sponsored the medals for the inaugural Greenham Common Half Marathon and 10K event which took place on Sunday 25th February 2024.
Members of staff also ran at the event to raise money for the event’s charity, New Life Special Care, which has been supporting special care baby units across the UK for almost thirty years.
Money raised from The Greenham Common event will help provide much needed life-saving equipment for the units, some of which is not available on the NHS.
Lesley Wellsman, Carol Reading and Aaron Mahoney, who all work in different departments at Bloor Homes ran the 10K race. A fourth member of staff, Clare Darling assisted at the event.
Clare had helped organise the event after her friend Mark Hayes came up with the idea of creating it. Clare said: “My husband and I have known Mark for some time through running and helped him with a different event in the past. When he decided to set up the Greenham Common Half Marathon and 10K, we naturally volunteered to help here too.
“Bloor Homes has been really supportive with the medals, which are all made from wood to be as sustainable as possible. The event sold out once, so we extended the number of places which meant extra medals too.”
John Lusty, Managing Director for Bloor Homes’ Southern region, said: “It was really good to hear this first event has been so popular - it shows how much local support there is for this important charity.
“We have a long history in the local area and are delighted to support this event by sponsoring the medals to commemorate the first Greenham Common event for the runners and organisers.
“Well done to Lesley, Carol, Aaron and all the runners, and well done to Clare and all the organisers and volunteers who worked so hard to make the event such a success.”
