Bloor Homes donates £250 worth of supplies to Derby foodbank

Bloor Homes’ Midlands region has donated £250 worth of supplies in a food package to Derby City Mission Foodbank, a charity located just 4 miles from the housebuilder’s Bramble Gate development in Mickleover.

Every year, Derby City Mission Foodbank provides emergency food to 3,000 local people, and their families, who have been referred by its Debt and Advice Clinics or from neighbouring agencies. The organisation is celebrating 35 years of service this year, and has distributed a record 2,114 food parcels to commemorate its long-standing commitment to Derby and the surrounding communities.

According to Trussell, a national foodbank charity with a similar operation to Derby City Mission, 1 in 5 people in the UK live below the poverty line, which is why community fundraising and donations from businesses such as Bloor Homes are vital to enable the important work of local foodbanks to continue.

Terry Langley, Community Shop and Food Coordinator at Derby City Mission, said: “We are so grateful to those who already donate. But we urge anyone that is able to spare food and/or toiletries or a financial donation this Christmas, as it will make a huge difference to those in Derby that need our help, especially at this time of year.

We would like to thank Bloor Homes for its kind donation, as contributions from local businesses provide a huge boost to our operations and allow us to provide emergency food support to as many people as possible.”

The developer offered the foodbank the donation in the spirit of festive giving, though it consistently fulfils its year-round commitment to supporting the communities it builds within. Its Bramble Gate development is now down to the final remaining three and four-bedroom homes, meaning it’s prospective buyers’ last chance to secure a new-build home at the popular Station Road neighbourhood.

Angie Prince, Sales Director for Bloor Homes’ Midlands region, was inspired by the charity’s 35 years of service: “It is heart-warming to know of the strong commitment that the volunteers at Derby City Mission have towards supporting the hungry in the local area, and we are proud to add our donation to the pile of emergency supplies at our local foodbank. At Bloor Homes, we are also committed to helping the community tackle the issues they face, and we are always looking for ways to collaborate with the important organisations that take on such responsibilities.

“We hope our food donation will aid the foodbank in its mission and encourage others to give to the organisation this Christmas.”
