Award-winning designer Paul Hervey-Brookes brings showhome gardens to life

Award-winning garden and landscape designer, RHS judge, writer and speaker, Paul Hervey-Brookes has designed three showhome gardens for Bloor Homes at its ‘The Arches at Ledbury development’ in Herefordshire.

Paul, who has created gardens for prestigious shows including RHS Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival and is internationally recognised for his vast knowledge of plants and plant habitats, was invited to design the gardens as a result of his interest in gardens for newly built homes, which are often a blank canvas and offer a wealth of possibilities.

Working with Bloor Homes’ landscaping team, Paul was briefed with creating gardens that show what can be done when people first move into their new home and open the doors to their brand- new garden for the first time.

The three gardens have different themes: visitors looking for a minimal, low maintenance space can take a look at the garden for The Verwood showhome, while those seeking inspiration for a social space to entertain family and friends can head for The Dalgety showhome garden. The third garden has been designed for those wishing to create a tranquil, back-to-nature space can find their inspiration in The Whalton showhome’s eco garden, complete with planters and bird boxes.

Steve Roberts, Managing Director for Bloor Homes’ Western region, responsible for The Arches, said: “These are the first showhome gardens Bloor Homes has had created with a renowned garden designer, and it has been an exciting time for us.

“Paul has designed three spaces to meet different briefs and created gardens that showcase the fundamentals of great garden design. Add Paul’s knowledge of which planting schemes work for each of the gardens and our new residents have all the inspiration they need to create their own perfect garden when they move to a new home with us.”

Alongside the three gardens to visit at Ledbury, Paul is also sharing his expertise through a new ‘Brew Breaks’ gardening series via Bloor Homes’ social channels. It shows people everywhere how they can start to get the best from their garden and the things they should consider.

Paul Hervey-Brookes said: “This was such a unique and great opportunity to work with a company that is as passionate about gardens as it is about building the best homes. It’s my hope that owners of brand-new homes and gardens, as well as those with existing gardens, can take away ideas and planting combinations which really work. Not only will they be able to create their own impactful planting, they will also provide wildlife habitat and year-round seasonal interest.”

Now open, the showhome gardens will come into their own throughout the summer and visitors and residents of The Arches and of Ledbury are welcome to stop by for continued inspiration through the seasons as it grows.

Meanwhile the new gardening series launched on Bloor Homes' social channels in April is packed with advice and inspiration. People can also submit questions for Paul to answer and enter a gardening competition too.

In another landmark for Bloor Homes, The Arches is the developer’s first development in Herefordshire to include PV solar panels and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points in all the new homes, future proofing them for years to come.
