Bloor Homes donates £250 to a local foodbank in Oadby
Bloor Homes' Midlands region has donated £250 to Oadby Foodbank, a charity located just 1.5 miles from the Bloor Homes' new Cottage Farm development in the town of Oadby.
Oadby Foodbank works in partnership with charitable food re-distributer FareShare, a national network made up of 18 individual organisations that transfer good quality food surplus to nearly 8,000 frontline community groups across the UK. Using nutritional aid from FareShare, grants from local County and Borough councils, and donations from the public, Oadby Foodbank provide emergency food collection services to local people in need.
With 25 years of service, FareShare are the UK’s longest running food redistribution charity. When investigating the issue of food waste in the UK, the organisation found that over 4 million tonnes of ‘good to eat’ surplus food goes to waste in the food industry every year. In its’ 2023 report with the University of Hertfordshire, the charity explained that the Government saves nearly £118 million a year by redistributing surplus food to charities like the Oadby Foodbank, that can give it to those in need and reduce wastage. This is why financial support from businesses like Bloor Homes is so vital to ensure the high-quality donations can be organised and circulated.
Lesley Green, Chair at Oadby Foodbank, said “We urge anyone that can to spare a donation to support us this Christmas, as it will make such a huge difference to those in the Oadby community that need our help, especially at this time of year.
“We would like to thank Bloor Homes for its kind donation, as financial contributions from local businesses can provide a huge boost to our operations and help us to distribute the nutritional surplus food we receive to as many people as possible.”
The developer offered the foodbank the monetary donation in the spirit of festive giving, though it upholds a year-round commitment to supporting the communities it builds within.
Angie Prince, Sales Director for Bloor Homes’ Midlands region, said: “It is heart-warming to know of the commitment to supporting the hungry in Oadby and across the UK, and we are proud to contribute our donation to support Oadby Foodbank. At Bloor Homes, we are committed to helping local communities tackle the issues they face, and we are always looking for ways to collaborate with the organisations that take on such vital responsibilities.
“We hope our donation will aid the foodbank in its continued mission and inspire others to give to the organisation this Christmas.”
