Bloor Homes donates £250 to a local foodbank in Atherstone
Bloor Homes' Midlands region has donated £250 to Nuneaton & Bedworth Healthy Living Network, a foodbank in Atherstone located just half a mile from Atherstone Place.
Nuneaton & Bedworth Healthy Living Network is a charity that runs a food re-distribution network, EdibleLinks, in Northern-Warwickshire and the surrounding areas. The organisation tackles food poverty and diet-related ill health by connecting charity, statutory and retail sectors in a unique partnership that circulates food surplus to individuals and families in need, and schools and community groups that provide access to affordable food.
The issue of food waste is a current problem in the UK, with over four million tonnes of ‘good to eat’ surplus food going to waste in the national food industry every year, according to equivalent re-distribution charity FareShare. In a 2023 report with the University of Hertfordshire*, FareShare explained that the Government saves nearly £118 million a year by redistributing surplus food to charities like the Nuneaton & Bedworth Healthy Living Network, that can give it to those in need and reduce wastage. This is why financial support from businesses like Bloor Homes is so vital to ensure the high-quality donations can be organised and circulated.
Bloor Homes offered the foodbank the donation in the spirit of festive giving, though it upholds a year-round commitment to supporting the communities it builds within.
Angie Prince, Sales Director for Bloor Homes’ Midlands region, said: “It is heart-warming to know of the community’s commitment to supporting the hungry in Atherstone and across the UK, and we are proud to support the important work at Nuneaton and Bedworth Healthy Living Network. At Bloor Homes, we are committed to helping local communities tackle the issues they face, and we are always looking for ways to collaborate with the organisations that take on such vital responsibilities.
“We hope our donation will aid the foodbank in its continued mission and inspire others to give to the organisation this Christmas.”
