Getting to and from Thurston
Thurston Grove is ideally located within walking distance of the village’s train station, being just 5 minutes’ walk from the station. There are regular trains to Ipswich (a 30-minute journey), Cambridge (a 52-minute journey) and London (1 hour 42-minute journey), as well as other services to the likes of Bury St Edmunds (6-minute journey) and Stowmarket (15-minute journey). Thurston Grove is just 4 minutes from the A14 and A143. The A14 provides direct access to Ipswich and Cambridge, extending to Kettering and Coventry via the M6, whilst the A143 connects the development to the likes of Great Yarmouth and several of Norfolk’s popular beaches. Stansted Airport is about an hour’s drive away whilst Luton Airport is about an hour and a half away.
Things to do in Thurston
Thurston Grove is just 6 minutes’ walk away from the local Co-op and the nearby town of Bury St Edmunds offers a broad selection of stores too, with the likes of Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, M&S, Iceland, and Farmfoods all being found in the town. Bury St Edmunds is also home to the Arc Shopping Centre - a dog-friendly shopping complex housing several retail outlets including Accessorize, JD Sports, New Look, Waterstones, and Pandora. In addition to its shops, you can also find several gyms and leisure centres in Bury St Edmunds, including IronIsland, The Gym Group and the Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre - which has a couple of swimming pools, a steam room and a sauna – and is only 14 minutes’ drive away from our development.
Education in Thurston
There are several highly rated primary and secondary schools within easy reach of our development, including:
- Thurston Childcare Suffolk - a nursery daycare centre for children aged 3 months to 11 years, Thurston Childcare is situated just a 19-minute walk away from our development.
- Thurston Primary School caters for children aged 5 to 11 years and is just a 17-minute walk from our new homes. The school offers an eclectic selection of after-school clubs, including netball, dance and dodgeball.
- Norton CEVC Primary School is another great option for children ages 5-11. The school is just an 8-minute drive away and offers an Eco School programme - helping children learn about the environment and the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and tidy.
- Thurston Community College is a secondary school only 17 minutes' walk away from our development. The school offers a sixth form option, catering to children ages 11-18, and provides its students with the opportunity to get involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award as well as the National Citizen Service.
Things to do in Thurston
The nearest green space to the development is Rougham Park, a wooded area with 18 miles of footpaths to explore and a garden, just a 24-minute walk away or 5 minutes by car. Children can also enjoy the outdoor play area at Thedwastre, located a 10-minute walk from our new homes. Alternatively, further afield, there are three National Trust sites within a 30-minute drive: Ickworth, the Lavenham Guildhall, and Melford Hall. These sites offer a plethora of footpaths to explore. Or you can visit the award-winning Apex - a live music venue known for its incredible acoustic performances. The venue also hosts a selection of classical concerts, comedy shows and live events throughout the year. Then of course there’s the stunning Suffolk coast. Felixstowe Beach is a 40-minute drive away from our development and the like of Aldeburgh Beach, Southwold Beach and Lowestoft Beach are about an hour’s drive away.
