Cyclists get ready for Dorset charity bike ride
Hundreds of cyclists from across Dorset are gearing up to tackle a charity bike ride in aid of Cancer Research UK.
The seventh annual Rotary Dorset Bike Ride will take place on Sunday 9th September.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Westbourne, the event is being sponsored for the fifth successive year by housebuilder Bloor Homes.
Up to a thousand riders are expected to enter the event, which will feature eight different routes, ranging from 10 to 108 miles in length, all starting from Longthorns Campsite in Wareham.
Cyclists can register their place in the event online, with entry fees and sponsorship going to Cancer Research UK.
David King, from the Rotary Club of Westbourne, said: “Over the past six years, the Rotary Dorset Bike Ride has become a firm fixture in the county’s social calendar, raising £200,000 for Cancer Research UK.
“The event continues to grow in popularity, and is a fantastic way of exploring the beautiful Dorset countryside while keeping fit and supporting a hugely worthwhile cause. Last year more than 800 riders took part in the event, and we hope even more people will come and join us this year.
“Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, all the entry fee goes to Cancer Research UK and therefore maximise the amount we raise for this fantastic charity.
“We are immensely grateful to all of our sponsors and volunteers, and would like to express particular thanks to our main sponsor Bloor Homes, who have provided such valued support over the past five years.
“Places are still available for this year’s bike ride, and due to the growing popularity of the event, we would encourage riders to register online as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
Bloor Homes, which is building at the Wimborne Chase development in Wimborne, is once again donating £1,000 towards the cost of running the event.
Luke Southgate, Regional Sales Director at Bloor Homes Southern, said: “The Rotary Dorset Bike Ride is a fantastic community event for people of all ages which raises much needed funds for charity.
“We are delighted to be sponsoring the event once again this year and we wish the best of luck to everyone taking part.”
