Uppingham gears up for annual Feast Day
The countdown has begun to this year’s Uppingham Feast Day. The free family fun day returns to the town’s Market Place on Sunday 17th June. And after securing sponsorship from housebuilder Bloor Homes, organisers are hoping to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever before.
Organised by a dedicated group of volunteers with the support of Uppingham Town Partnership and Uppingham Town Council, Feast Day sees the Market Place come alive with street entertainers, live music, and a whole host of other attractions.
Established in its current guise a decade ago to revive a centuries old tradition, Uppingham Feast Day has quickly become one of the most popular dates in the town’s calendar.
And this year, there will be more children’s entertainers on show thanks to Bloor Homes, which has contributed £1,000 towards the cost of putting on the event.
Attractions will include a Punch & Judy show, stilt walkers, face painting, alpacas, goats and sheep, giant games and a circus workshop.
James Torbell, from the Uppingham Feast Day organising committee, said: “Uppingham Feast Day is one of the key dates in the town’s calendar and we can’t wait to welcome visitors to the Market Place for this year’s event.
“It’s a great day out which offers something for all ages to enjoy, from entertainment for the kids to a fantastic selection of live music, and will be the perfect way to spend Father’s Day with the family.
“A lot of hard work goes into organising Uppingham Feast Day and we are extremely grateful to our volunteers and our sponsors, without whom we would not be able to put on this free event for the people of Uppingham.
“We’d particularly like to thank Bloor Homes for their generous sponsorship, which has enabled us to provide even more entertainment for children to enjoy.”
Bloor Homes is currently building at The Elms, a development of 103 three and four-bedroom homes off Leicester Road.
