First movers at Donington development building for the future
A young bricklayer has achieved his dream of getting onto the property ladder at Bloor Homes' Oak Tree Gardens development in Donington le Heath - in a house he helped to build.
Thomas Gent, 29, got the opportunity to work on his first home after reserving the plot at Bloor Homes’ Oak Tree Gardens development with his partner Charlotte Pass.
A little over four months after Thomas started work at the site, the couple have become the first buyers to move in at the development, which is located off Frearson Road, just north of the village.
The couple, who stayed with Charlotte’s parent’s in nearby Hugglescote while their new three-bedroom detached house was being built, had initially thought about renovating a Victorian house in the area.
But when Thomas began working at Oak Tree Gardens, they decided to buy new instead, and took the opportunity to reserve early.
Charlotte, 24, a care coordinator, said: “It’s the first time we’ve moved in together so we’re excited to be getting our own space.
“When we first discussed the move, the idea of having a home to work on excited us. However, building a new home from scratch turned into our project and we really liked the plot’s location, so we snapped it up as soon as it became available.
“Thomas asked if he could work on the plot and help build our house, so he had the opportunity to add a few personal touches to our home.
“Oak Tree Gardens was the perfect location for us, as we’re both local to the area and didn’t want to leave.
“We were very impressed with the service Bloor provided. Any queries we had were handled superbly well by the sales team. I can’t fault them at all.
“It’s been roughly a year since we heard about the development, so we kept an eye on this plot and managed to reserve it in September. The wait was well worth it and we now have a lovely home which overlooks some beautiful rolling countryside. It ticks all the boxes.”
