Youth teams gain extra time to watch England play thanks to donation

Local youth football team Elsenham Youth FC treated its young England fans to extra time after the Club’s Presentation Day

Local youth football team Elsenham Youth FC treated its young England fans to extra time after the Club’s End of Season Presentation Day at the weekend (6th July), showing the match against Switzerland in a hired marquee, thanks to a donation from Bloor Homes.

Michelle Guy, EYFC Social Committee Chair for Elsenham Youth FC said: “The end of season presentation day takes place every year but as it coincided with the Euros this year, and especially as England were playing, we desperately wanted to allow the players and their families to enjoy the experience of watching the match as a club. We’ve never actually been able to go to the expense of a marquee before but with the weather forecast being not so great we approached Bloor Homes who were really happy to help. Now England are through to the final, the whole Club will be rooting for them on Sunday.”

Elsenham Youth FC has over 450 registered players ranging from Under 4s to Under 18s and this year it became a provider of the FA Wildcats initiative, the Clubs’ first all-girls squad for U7 - U11 year-olds. From Sept 2024, it will also become an FA provider of SquadGirls football (U12-U14) and for the first time in its history, 2 adult football teams will be playing in the Cambridge League.

Each year the end of season presentation day celebrates the spirit of community football, but this year with England playing - and winning in the quarter finals and subsequent semi final - it was even more special.

Michelle adds: “The presentation day is an important day in our calendar every year as it supports the development and growth of all the boys and girls - not just in football skills but playing as a team, having each other’s backs and truly living the experience and camaraderie that sport brings.

“We’re incredibly lucky to have really committed volunteer coaches who turn up every week, twice a week, rain or shine to support these youngsters, so this day is as much for the players and their families as it is for the coaches - to say thank you! This year we were able to make it really memorable for everyone, thanks to the generous donation from Bloor Homes for the marquee hire.”

Bloor Homes, which is building a selection of brand-new homes in Elsenham, has a long history of supporting grass roots sports clubs across the country, most of which are managed and run by volunteers and in Michelle’s words, “rely heavily on the generosity of local businesses to supplement the forever rising costs.”

Carrie Claxton, Sales Director for Bloor Homes’ Eastern region, said: “It is always a pleasure to support local clubs or events in the communities that we build in. England winning will have given the young players at Elsenham Youth FC a really memorable day anyway, but watching the match together – it’s great to have been able to help with that.”
