Stroud Bricklaying Academy receives four years worth of brick supplies from Bloor Homes
South Gloucestershire and Stroud College has gained a new funding partner in Bloor Homes South West
South Gloucestershire and Stroud College has gained a new funding partner in Bloor Homes South West, the new-build home developer that has provided enough bricks for four years of teaching and assessment to the colleges’ Bricklaying Academy, totalling 6,000 units.
The recipient educational institution has campuses in Stroud and Filton, and delivers fully funded Level One and Two bricklaying courses for sixteen to eighteen year olds who wish to pursue a career in the construction industry. Due to budget constraints faced by South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, the Bricklaying Academy was informed that it’s department would not be receiving funding to purchase new bricks in 2025.
Charles Smith, Bricklaying Lecturer at the Stroud Bricklaying Academy, said: “Without Bloor Homes’ donation, this year’s students would not be able to complete the course assessments to the best of their abilities, as the academy’s resources were significantly worn.”
In support of the construction industry and the development of skilled tradespeople in the South West, Bloor Homes responded to the Bricklaying Academy’s appeal for help by donating 6,000 new bricks to the course. This quantity exceeded the requested amount by 4,700, as the educational institution originally requested 1,300 bricks to solve the problem.
Charles continues: “We truly appreciate the generous offer from the team at Bloor Homes and their support will make a real difference in helping our students succeed in their bricklaying qualifications. Many of our pupils come from disadvantaged backgrounds and have often had negative learning experiences in the past, so the connection between education and the industry they aspire to join will have a profound and lasting impact.”
The developer is building neighbourhoods of two, three four and five bedroom energy-efficient new homes across the South West region, with developments currently in Twigworth, Malmesbury, Shrivenham, Faringdon and Chippenham. Through donations, sponsorships and partner projects, Bloor Homes consistently seeks to support the communities it builds within, and contributes to the construction employment market where land is acquired.
Kim Benson, Sales Director for Bloor Homes’ South West region, said: “We are always eager to invest in local young people through partnerships with educational institutions and trade courses. Bloor Homes is grateful for the high-quality skills and learning the Bricklaying Academy provides to students aspiring to join the construction industry, and we hope to welcome many of them into the South West team in the future.”
