Developer continues West Wick investment with defibrillator funding

Oterhampton Gardens in Weston-super-Mare will receive its first public access heart defibrillator.

Oterhampton Gardens in Weston-super-Mare will receive its first public access heart defibrillator thanks to a successful £3,000 crowd-funding campaign generated by local people, including a donation from Bloor Homes, the neighbourhood’s developer.

A Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) is a simple piece of equipment designed to be used by the public that doesn’t require training for accurate administration. Through a jolt of energy, it can help restore a healthy rhythm to the heart of someone experiencing Cardiac Arrest. Resuscitation Council UK urges the importance of being able to access a PAD in an emergency with the statistic that for every minute someone in Cardiac Arrest goes without receiving CPR and defibrillation, their survival chances decrease by 10%.*

Bloor Homes built 182 homes at “The Wick” in Oterhampton Gardens from 2019 – 2024 and invested over £400,000 towards the local area before leaving the site last year. The developer’s South West team has since maintained strong connections with the community of West Wick and has continued to support local causes and individuals through donations and sponsorship.

When local resident Jill Carter reached out for help to pay for a heart defibrillator at Oterhampton Gardens, the South West team continued their commitment to supporting the local community and donated £500 to the crowd-funding campaign, led by Oterhamptons Gardens resident Bradley Bird. Having devoted an admirable effort to ensuring that the local area secures this vital piece of equipment, Bradley is widely regarded for his commitment to installing, maintaining and financing the ongoing electricity costs associated with the heart defibrillator.

Jill Carter, a fellow West Wick resident involved in the project, said: “Thank you so much to Bloor Homes for its amazing donation to the Heart Defibrillator for West Wick project. It’s very much appreciated and will be a real benefit to all our Bloor occupants, as well as the surrounding estates. We remain very grateful for Bloor Homes’ continued commitment to our community in West Wick and the wider area of Weston super Mare.”

Kim Benson, Sales Director for Bloor Homes South West, said: “It is extremely important to us that residents feel safe and able to access equipment such as defibrillators in the case of an emergency, so we are grateful for the chance to donate towards the installation of a Public Access Defibrillator in Oterhampton Gardens. We would like to extend our thanks to Jill for getting in contact with us and to Bradley for his commitment to organising the wider crowd-funding project and allowing 24/7 public access to his own premises, where the defibrillator is located.”

Bloor Homes continues to provide funding for local projects across its developments in the South West, including its new Brue Place development of two, three and four bedroom homes in Highbridge where it made a £2,000 donation to local young person’s mental health charity, In Charley’s Memory.Brue Place is located on Ryeland Street in Highbridge, and is open daily for sales centre visits and showhome tours from 10am – 5pm.
