Bloor Homes donates £250 worth of supplies to Ashby Foodbank
Bloor Homes' Midlands region has donated a food collection worth £250 to Ashby Foodbank, a charity located less than a mile from the housebuilder’s new Ashby Fields development in the town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
Part of Trussell, a national organisation tackling UK hunger, Ashby Foodbank provides three days’ worth of food to local people that are referred to them for emergency support. In the past year, 1,700 local people have accessed emergency food packages through the organisation, of which has been open since 2013.
According to Trussell, 1 in 5 people in the UK live below the poverty line, which is why community fundraising and donations from businesses such as Bloor Homes are vital to enable the important work of local foodbanks to continue.
Catherine Booton, a member of the management team at Ashby Foodbank, said: “We are always particularly busy in the run up to Christmas and are very grateful for the support we receive from our local community in donating food to us.
“We would like to thank Bloor Homes for their donation and continued support of our project. It is great when local businesses are able to help us so we can help those who are in need.”
The developer offered the foodbank the donation of supplies in the spirit of festive giving, though it upholds a year-round commitment to supporting the communities it builds within.
The community effort behind Ashby Foodbank inspired Angie Prince, Sales Director for Bloor Homes’ Midlands region, when she heard that over 90% of the food distributed by the foodbanks in the Trussel Trust networks are donated by the public.
Angie said: “It is heart-warming to know of the commitment the Ashby community has to supporting the hungry in the local area, and we are proud to add our donation to the pile of emergency supplies at Ashby Foodbank. At Bloor Homes, we are committed to helping local communities tackle the issues the local area faces, and we are always looking for ways to collaborate with the organisations that take on such vital responsibilities.
“We hope our food donation will aid the foodbank in its continued mission and inspire others to give to the organisation this Christmas.”
