Student’s winning bedroom design brought to life in showhome
A student from Newport Girls’ High School has seen her design brought to life after winning a competition to design a bedroom in one of Bloor Homes’ new family showhomes at its Hutchinson Gate development in Newport.
Year 12 student Ionee Waters, who is currently studying for an ‘A Level’ in Product Design, entered the competition after Bloor Homes’ design partner, Artspace Interior Design visited the school to give a talk about interior design and provide a competition brief.
The students were invited to submit ‘mood boards’ and Ionee’s was chosen as the winning design by Michele Rose, Sales Director at Bloor Homes’ Midlands region, and Bloor Homes’ design partner Artspace Interior Design. As well as having her designs transformed into a real bedroom in the 4 bedroom ‘Dorneywood’ showhome, Ionee won a £50 voucher of her choice and £250 for the school.
Kate Letteriello, Managing Director at Artspace Interior Design said: “Ionee’s design was chosen overall because she had put a lot of thought into every detail, with colours and textures working well together. We have really enjoyed bringing her ideas to life and it’s been fantastic to show her the end result.”
As part of the process Ionee and her classmates visited Hutchinson Gate during the showhome decorating phase to take part in Bloor Homes’ social media ‘transformation’ content, and Ionee was able to see ‘her’ room coming to life prior to the new showhomes launch on 22nd April.
Ionee, who is considering a career in architecture or interior design, said: “Learning how the interior design industry approaches projects and then seeing them put into practice has been invaluable; it has really helped me to understand the actual processes and steps taken to create vibrant and exciting spaces. The whole experience from putting my thoughts and ideas down to seeing the end result by the professional interior designers has been really inspiring. I hope everyone loves the finished bedroom as much as I do.”
Robert Williams, Head of Art and Design and Technology at Newport Girls High School said: “The design challenge with Bloor Homes has provided our A Level Product Design students with a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience and see first-hand how the creative industry works. It has helped them to build a strong portfolio of design work to showcase their skills and abilities, which can be beneficial for applying to further education or pursuing a career in the field later.
Congratulations goes to Ionee on her design and for winning £250 for the school. It will go towards new equipment in the Art and Design department.”
