New Homes for Sale in Sussex
Sussex is perfect for those looking to live by the seaside. This coastal county is known for its stunning chalk cliffs and its beautiful sandy beaches, but it’s also home to sprawling countryside, with the South Downs, and its popular national park, being a highlight of the county.
Below we’ll take you through what living in Sussex is like and give you a small taste of this popular coastal county.
Where is Sussex?
Sussex is located just south of Surrey and London and overlooks the English Channel. Split into East and West Sussex, West Sussex borders Hampshire while East Sussex borders Kent.
There are two cities in Sussex, Chichester and Brighton, with the likes of Bognor Regis, Crawley, Eastbourne, and St Leonards Hastings being amongst its more notable towns.
The county is also home to two major national parks, The South Downs and the High Weald National Landscape.
Transport in Sussex
Sussex is about an hour and a half from London via the M23. There are several A roads within Sussex itself, which connect most of its major cities and towns to each other. The A23 runs from Crawley down to Brighton whilst the A29 runs from Bognor Regis up to Horsham, and the A21 goes from St Leonards Hastings all the way until Royal Tunbridge Wells.
In terms of trains, the largest train station in Sussex is found in Brighton - which offers direct services to London (with it taking about an hour to get from Brighton to London by train), Cambridge and Bedford, as well as the nearby town of Eastbourne.
Shopping in Sussex
Brighton’s Churchill Square is the largest shopping centre in Sussex, with the shopping centre housing a number of notable retailers, including the likes of Apple, Ernest Jones, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, Hollister, and Build-a-Bear, as well as several restaurants. including Bubble CI.Tea, Churros, Hero’s Ice Creams, and Millie’s Cookies.
There are also several markets spread out across Sussex, with the likes of the Chichester Market and the Shoreham Farmers' market being amongst the more popular in the county.
Things to do in Sussex
Sussex's landscape lends itself to those who enjoy countryside hikes or days out by the beach, however the county also has its very own winery - the Ridgeview Winery - as well as a couple of national parks - namely the South Downs and the High Weald.
The city of Brighton has also come to be known for its famous pier, with an arcade and several stalls helping to bring this popular pier to life.
Popular places to live in Sussex
From the bustling streets of Brighton to the rural villages across the South Downs, Sussex is far from a one size fits all county. Here are just a few of the interesting places to live in Sussex:
Southbourne
Located just north of Prinsted, Southbourne borders Hampshire to the west and runs alongside the A27 – connecting it to the nearby city of Portsmouth, a 17-minute drive away.
A largely rural town, situated near the Thornham Marina, we have a number of properties available to buy in Southbourne, at our Priors Meadow development.
If you’d like to view our new development for yourself, you can book an appointment today.
Seaford
One of the larger coastal towns in Sussex, Seaford is bordered by both Bishopstone and Newhaven and is located along the chalk cliffs of the south coast.
Seaford is home to Shingle Beach – a dog friendly, scenic bit of coastline – as well as the Seaford Head nature reserve and the large Seven Sisters country park.
A town with several primary and secondary schools to choose from, Seaford is an excellent place to raise a family.
Brighton
Known as the ‘gay capital of the UK’, Brighton is renowned for its LGBTQA+ community. It’s also famous for its vibrant nightlife, the Brighton Palace Pier fun park, and a thriving arts scene that operates from the Theatre Royal Brighton.
One of the more urban areas of Sussex, this city is an excellent choice if you want to be at the centre of the action.
