Things to do in Halstead
Halstead is an attractive and popular market town that has the benefit of everything you need day-to-day in easy reach. Your weekly food shop is taken care of with a large Sainsbury’s, Co-op and Lidl close to the town centre. There are a handful of high street shops alongside independent shops, selling everything from bicycles to cakes. If you’re spending time in town, you won’t have to look far to find somewhere good to eat, as there are plenty of cafés, pubs, bars and restaurants to choose from. When you want some entertainment, the Empire Theatre has a calendar of film screenings and live theatre productions throughout the year.

Just 5 miles away from Oakwood Hill, Braintree is also a nice place to visit. It has an extensive range of different shopping options on hand, with a large department store and the George Yard Shopping Centre in the town centre, as well as a number of shops outside of these, including high street names for clothing, jewellery and health and beauty. Braintree also has its own designer outlet village - Freeport - just south of the town centre. Here you’ll find well-known brands, several restaurants and a multiscreen cinema.

For those who enjoy the great outdoors, the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is around 20 miles from Oakwood Hill. Here you’ll find plenty of wildlife in and around the picturesque woodlands, meadows and rolling farmland, making it a wonderful place to visit for a few hours just to be out in the open.

Bus services run close to the development, with the closest bus stop around 5 minutes’ walk from home, which provides direct journeys to Colchester, Earls Colne and Fordham.

For anyone who is looking for easy air travel, London Stansted airport is around 24 miles away from Oakwood Hill, making European and international flights simpler than ever.

Schools and education in Halstead
