What is there to do in Colchester?
 
Colchester is a vast town with a rich history dating back to Roman times. It is said to be the oldest recorded town in Britain, and there are a number of historic sites to visit, including Colchester Castle Museum, the foundations of a Roman church from the 4th century AD and Gosbecks Archaeological Park, situated approximately 10 minutes away from the centre of Colchester. 
 
For shopping and socialising, Colchester is an ideal location for all the family. Culver Square Shopping Centre and Red Lion Yard are home to many well-known high street retailers, and also include a number of small independent shops. There are also a range of eateries and cafes in these shopping areas, as well as a number situated within the town centre itself. Colchester also offers a wide range of attractions and leisure facilities such as theatres, art centres, museums and gardens, along with Colchester’s football, golf and rugby clubs.    
 
For a day out away from the shops, Colchester Zoo is approximately 5 miles away from the centre of town. One of the finest zoological parks in Europe, it is home to a great number of rare and endangered species, including birds, primates and big cats.
