Where is Luton?
Luton is located an hour’s drive north of London. It’s located near Junction 11 of the M1 in the northern corner of the Chilterns National Landscape. It lies along the border between Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, with Bedford, Milton Keynes and Watford all nearby.
Transport in Luton
There are three train stations in Luton: Luton, Leagrave, and Luton Airport Parkway. The biggest interchange is Luton Station, which you can use to reach London St Pancras and the towns of Bedford, Horsham, and Corby.
Road travel is facilitated by the M1, which cuts through Luton and connects the town to Milton Keynes, Northampton, London, and a range of other destinations across the country.
As for air travel, Luton is home to London Luton Airport, which operates international flights to over 30 different countries.
Shopping in Luton
Luton Point is the main shopping destination in Luton’s town centre. This indoor mall hosts over 120 shops, including Boots, Pandora, Primark, TK Maxx, and Clarks. The centre is also home to the Luton Indoor Market, which opens on weekdays and Saturdays, selling everything from haircuts to fruit and vegetables.
For a larger shopping experience, Luton is located 50 minutes’ drive away from Westfield London, one of the largest shopping centres in Europe, where you can browse clothes, accessories, gifts and luxury brands.
Things to do in Luton
Luton has access to a number of outdoor activities close to home. The most notable of these is Whipsnade Zoo, the largest zoo in the UK, which is located a 20-minute drive away from Luton town centre and Woburn Safari Park, half an hour away. You can also birdwatch nearby at the Dunstable Downs, or challenge yourself to a hike up Ivinghoe Beacon and Coombe Hill. As for heritage trips, the ruins of Someries Castle are located just outside Luton to the southeast, while English Heritage operates sites at the De Grey Mausoleum and Houghton House. You’re also close to many of London’s attractions, such as the Warner Bros Studio Tour in Watford and LEGOLAND Windsor Resort .

You can also access Junction 8 of the M1 for quick travel into Luton and London, or drive the local A-roads to reach Aylesbury and Watford. Hemel Hempstead is also popular for its proximity to the Chilterns National Landscape, which you can access through Berkhamsted, Chesham, or Amersham.
