Creating a buzz: Bloor Homes planted the entire entrance to its development in Malmesbury with wildflowers
Residents at Bloor Homes’ new Avon Rise development in Malmesbury have been treated to an eruption of wildflowers over the last month.
The flowers were planted as part of the developer’s biodiversity and ecology plans for the development and were helped to grow by the lovely weather in recent weeks.
Kim Benson, Sales Director for Bloor Homes’ South West region, said: “There’s been a lot in the media about ‘meadowscaping’ as a new trend for homeowners which is more climate friendly, cost saving, less water intensive and of course supports bees and other pollinators as part of a wider eco-system.
“We’ve taken this idea and done it on a grand scale, planting the entirety of the entrance to Avon Rise with wildflowers. Even so, no one could have guessed how spectacular they would look, no doubt helped by amazing weather in recent weeks. We’re thrilled with the result and feedback from our residents has been amazing!”
The planting is just one part of Bloor Homes’ investment in the ecology of the new development which also includes:
- bat and bird boxes as part of the Homes for Nature initiative
- safe hedgehog highways to help the hedgehog population thrive
- sustainable urban drainage which play a major role in managing rain and surface water and help filter out sediment before the flow reaches water courses
- 3.95 acres of green open space to promote wellbeing, complete with a play area for children of all ages.
In addition, Bloor Homes has contributed more than £206,000 to Wiltshire Council to deliver a biodiversity enhancement scheme at Crews Farm, Brinkworth or similar as identified by the Council.
