Dr Das, who relocated from Canada to the UK to complete his GP training four years ago, bringing his wife and son with them, has moved into a new ‘Harwood’ family home at Bloor Homes' Hereford Point - completing the purchase in just two months.

Dr Das and his family moved to Hereford having previously lived in a brand new home in Toronto, Canada. The family had always favoured new-build properties over renovation projects, and from the first time they drove past Hereford Point and noticed the Bloor Homes signage, they were curious to find out more.

“We had lived in big cities before, so when we arrived in Hereford we were immediately struck by the greenery and the atmosphere,” says Dr Das. “My son loves outdoor activities, and we knew straight away that this was the kind of place we wanted to call home.”

For three years the family had been renting a two-bedroom flat near Hereford town centre, waiting until Dr Das secured a permanent GP position and for his son to gain a place at secondary school before committing to buying. Once the family decided to settle in the county, Hereford Point quickly rose to the top of their list of house buying options.

Their first visit, on 14th February 2025, proved decisive - not only because of the quality of the homes, but because of the approach taken by Bloor Homes’ sales team. Sales advisors Vanessa and Emma made an immediate impression. “Vanessa and Emma didn't just show us the show homes, they walked us around properties at different stages of construction so we could get a real sense of the actual sizes and layouts,” recalls Dr Das. “They went through every option, setting out the pros and cons of each. They were incredibly helpful.”

Despite visiting competing developments across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire in the months that followed, Dr Das found himself measuring every property against Hereford Point. “After seeing Hereford Point, I compared every other development I visited to Bloor Homes,” he explains. “The build quality, the layouts, the attention to detail - the standard they set was one that others simply could not match, right down to things like the door locks they use without having to upgrade, as well as the extra time they take when actually building their homes. It shows and is ultimately what brought us back.”

Another immediate positive which played a significant role in the decision for the family to buy at Hereford Point was the big play park and safe area where the couple’s son could play, ride his bike and make friends with other young residents at the development.

The family chose ‘The Harwood’ house style, the largest of the family homes at Hereford Point. On the ground floor it boasts a large, light kitchen, diner and family area spanning the whole length of the house, a lounge, a study, plus cloakroom and utility.  Upstairs there are four double bedrooms - including an en suite shower room to the master bedroom - plus a large family bathroom. 

The family’s new home has all the space they need; they can comfortably accommodate family visiting from Canada, while Dr Das has a separate place to work from home. The dedicated ground-floor study was a significant factor in the family choosing The Harwood.  “Since the pandemic, working from home has become the norm for many of us,” says Dr Das. “Having a dedicated study downstairs means I can keep work completely separate from family life. It really works for us.”

When choosing their plot, Dr Das and his wife took an unusually considered approach, one they now offer as advice to other buyers. The family visited the site at different times of day, including after dark, to understand how the light and atmosphere would feel throughout the year.

“We actually changed our minds about which plot we wanted,” he recalls. “We had chosen one but came back the following morning and realised another had far better sun exposure. The team were very accommodating and helped us make the switch. I would encourage anyone buying a new home to visit their plot at different times of day, and at night as well. Natural light plays a significant part in our wellbeing, and waking up to sunshine coming through your bedroom window can set you up for the whole day.”

Dr Das also encourages buyers not to rely solely on show homes: “Show homes are there to illustrate the potential of a property and the quality of the build. Visiting a similar property that is still being built, without any decoration, allows you to picture how you would make that house style your own.”

When it came to moving to Hereford Point, as first time buyers in the UK, the family was able to benefit from Bloor Homes’ Deposit Boost scheme. It helps purchasers by paying the minimum five per cent deposit contribution required by many mortgage lenders. 

Dr Das also took comfort in the NHBC ten-year warranty that comes with buying new with Bloor Homes. “When you are committing to a property, you naturally worry about what you are going to get,” says Dr Das. “Having the reassurance of a ten-year warranty and knowing that even issues which may only emerge years later as the homes settles because it is brand new are covered, is genuinely reassuring.”

The Harwood at Hereford Point also came with solar panels and an EV charging point already fitted, features the family had actively sought out, and which not all competing developments in the area were able to offer.

From deciding to purchase The Harwood at Hereford Point to moving in took just two months - a timeline extended only by the Christmas period. By coincidence, the family moved in on 14th February 2026, exactly one year to the day since their very first visit to the development.

Post-move support from Bloor Homes has been attentive throughout. Any snagging issues were addressed promptly, and the sales team has remained in regular contact with the family. “We never felt left on our own,” says Dr Das. “Even now, if we pass the sales office, the team invites us in and asks how we are settling in or if there is anything they can help with. We feel as though we have become part of the family.”

Dr Das, who works as a GP in nearby Leominster, just fifteen minutes from home, says the family is now fully settled and loving everything about life at Hereford Point. “When I walk out in the morning and the sun is shining, it makes me smile,” he says. “The neighbours are wonderful; it is the neighbours that make a real community. And we have the racecourse right opposite the development, so there is always something happening. It is everything we hoped for.”

Hereford Point is a development of two, three and four bedroom homes with excellent accessibility to Hereford and the surrounding towns. 

Located just 10 minutes' drive from Hereford Point Station and 7 minutes' drive from the Hereford College of Arts, the development has plenty of green space, play areas, picnic spots, and even a new apple orchard.
