Angie Prince, Sales Director for Bloor Homes' Midlands region, said: “Rather than make one donation to a single organisation, we wanted to share our £1,000 community fund across four charities and community groups doing fantastic work in Mickleover and the surrounding area. We're really proud to support them all.”
1) Mickleover Community Pavilion Association: The Mickleover Community Pantry distributes an average of 30 food parcels every month to between 45 and 50 local people in need. The donation will go towards essential groceries, hygiene and dignity packs, and pet food and to ensuring no one is ever forced to choose between their own nutrition and caring for their pets.
David Lewis, Chairman, said: “We are grateful to Bloor Homes for this donation. It will make an immediate and meaningful difference to the people we support, helping us to keep our shelves stocked with the essentials that local families and individuals rely on.”
2) Mickleover Running Club: Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the friendly volunteer-run club has more than 150 members and offers group runs, trail runs and a Couch to 5K programme. The donation has funded pop-up banners and flags to raise the club's profile and attract new members at events across the area.
Robert Humber, Communications Officer, said: “We're absolutely thrilled to receive this support from Bloor Homes, especially in our 10th anniversary year. These banners and flags will help us raise our profile and encourage more local people to discover what we're all about. Running genuinely changes lives, and the more people we can reach, the better.”
3) Ravensdale Junior School: The school will use the donation to complete a new garden area with child-friendly seating and plants for pupils to grow and care for, creating a calm, inclusive outdoor space that supports children's wellbeing, learning and development.
Mrs A. Badwal, Head of School, said: “This generous donation will enable us to complete a project that directly supports our children's wellbeing, learning and personal development. Thanks to Bloor Homes' support, we can create a special outdoor space where children feel calm, confident and proud of what they have grown together.”
4) St John's Church – 'Rest Stop' community café: Launched in Spring 2021 to reconnect local residents following lockdown, the 'Rest Stop' drop-in café runs every Friday from 10am to 12pm on Devonshire Drive and now welcomes between 40 and 60 visitors each session. The donation will fund banners and display boards to help reach even more local people.
Revd Alun Rowlands said: “We have the volunteers, we have the space, and after four years of 'Rest Stop' we understand the social needs of our community well. What we need now is to tell more people about what we have to offer. We're really grateful to Bloor Homes for this donation. It will help us take the next step in our journey and reach the people who need us most.”
