Stamp Duty reform - what it means for you

04/12/2014 - General

Changes to the stamp duty system means for many, there has never been a better time to buy.  Rather than the previous ‘slabbed’ increases in stamp duty, there is now a more progressive system.  In some cases, purchasers can enjoy thousands of pounds less on the stamp duty charge when buying their dream home.

For example, on a £300,000 house purchase there would be no tax to pay on the first £125,000, then 2% on the next £125,000 (£2,500) and 5% on the last £50,000 (£2,500). That’s a total of £5,000, compared with £9,000 under the previous system.
