Silsoe pancake day made possible by Bloor Homes donation
15/02/2016 - General
Around 100 people took part in the races, from children through to pensioners, and nearly £1,400 was raised for Silsoe Community Society's cause of keeping The George as a pub.
The event started at 9am with a pancake breakfast at Silsoe Village Hall, after which the pancake races were held on the High Street, and a pancake lunch was also held at the village hall.
Maggie Herod said: "Silsoe has welcomed many new residents over the last year, so this was a way of bringing together long-term residents with new arrivals and making sure everyone has a fabulous day.
"Bloor Homes has donated £500 to the event which paid for the pancakes, fillings, drinks, prizes, and even the Ampthill Town Band who played at the event; in fact the pancake race really wouldn't have been possible without the donation.
Proceeds from the event are going towards keeping The George, which has been a pub since the 1700s, from being turned into flats which is a cause we are absolutely passionate about.
The pancake race was successful beyond our wildest dreams and everyone had such a fantastic time; it was brilliant to welcome all our visitors from Silsoe and beyond this Valentine's Day.
Vanessa Macnee, Regional Sales Director for Bloor Homes, said: "This was such a fun event with the fantastic aim of bringing long-term and new residents together we're so pleased to be sponsoring it."
