Saving Pays Off


Bloor Homes highlights: With research by the Castle Trust illustrating how house buyers in London need an average of £72,760 to secure a 20% deposit, commuting into London from Dunstable made perfect sense for one couple. Richard and Carly achieved their dream of owning their first property at Bloor's Living @ The Edge development.

Richard explains: "We saw the Marford housetype as a complete shell in July and moved in three months later. I commute into London for work as a Graphic Designer and I couldn't imagine trying to get on the property ladder there. It takes me now just over an hour to commute, which I'm happy to do so we can live in this house. It also means we've got the space for whatever the future brings, having two bedrooms makes all the difference for us." 

Potential buyers who are looking to purchase a newly built home will be able to take advantage of Bloor Homes new 'Help To Buy' scheme which is now available at the Living @ The Edge development. Under the new initiative, a buyer will be able to take out a mortgage for just 75% of the cost of the property, provided they can put down a 5% deposit. Those who qualify will be eligible for an "equity loan" worth up to 20% of the value of the property, funded by the government, which will be interest free for the first five years.

'Help to Buy' is an expansion of an existing scheme called FirstBuy, which went live in 2011, but the new version is open to those looking to move up the housing ladder, as well as first-time buyers. It also has fewer restrictions than FirstBuy; the maximum property price that will be considered is £600,000 and there is no cap on the maximum amount someone can earn to be eligible.

Richard concludes: "Choosing to live here means we've been able to move into our first home much sooner than we thought and get a much larger property than we thought we could afford! Our Yorkshire terrier, Finley, is really enjoying the garden and we can't wait to host BBQ's in the summer!"

Dunstable offers everything you need for an active and well-balanced lifestyle. The town centre offers an abundance of shops, restaurants and a theatre complex, whilst the 188 acres of parkland, gardens, open spaces and pretty scenery of the East Chilterns are all on the doorstep.

For commuters, nearby Luton offers fast rail service to London and Luton Airport is close at hand, whilst there are good transport links to the A5, M1 and A421.
