Thame is actually steeped in history itself. Before construction of Thame Meadows began, Bloor Homes commissioned Oxford Cotswold Archaeology to carry out a detailed excavation at the site. The remains of prehistoric monuments and settlements dating back to the Neolithic period were among the exciting discoveries made during a seven-month excavation.
Archaeologists have described the dig, which actually was a joint venture between two of the largest archaeological companies in the country as one of the most significant undertaken in Britain this year and one that far surpassed their expectations. The finds from the excavation are housed with the Oxfordshire County Museum Service.

Things to do in Thame
Thame has plenty of things to keep everyone entertained. One of its major attractions is the renowned annual Oxfordshire County and Thame Show, an agricultural show with much to see and do including livestock shows, falconry displays and a host of craft trade stands.
The town is also the location for the filming of many popular television programmes such as Midsomer Murders and the town hall is actually the setting for Causton Town Hall. Your family’s day-to-day needs will be well catered for in Thame itself but for more retail therapy, just under 20 minutes away is the shopper's paradise of Bicester Village. Outlet Shopping at its very best. This coveted destination has a fantastic array of discount designer labels - world-leading fashion and lifestyle brands offering fantastic savings - and cafés and restaurants to enjoy.
Alternatively, you can easily visit Oxford, taking advantage of the Park & Ride to experience all this beautiful city has to offer with its comprehensive blend of major high street brands alongside small independent shops. To make it a complete day out, why not make the most of the fantastic choice of bars, restaurants and theatres top it off?
Living in Thame enables you to enjoy outdoor living by taking advantage of the many public walkways including the Chiltern Hills with the Ridgeway Path and the Oxfordshire Way. All of these helping you take in the outstanding views of the surrounding area. If fine dining is more to your taste, then Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons is located in nearby Great Milton and is holder of two Michelin stars. Alternatively, you can head over to The Oxfordshire Golf Hotel and Spa to enjoy a round of golf or a pampering session in the spa with its range of treatments. It also offers a fully equipped gym and indoor swimming pool. Places to explore nearby include the magnificent Blenheim Palace, the major landmark of Brill Windmill and beautiful Waterperry gardens.

Transport in and around Thame
Thames Meadows has good transport links too with the junction 8 on the M40 only around five miles away giving you easy access to London and Birmingham and High Wycombe in 17 minutes. If you’re looking for rail access, Thame Parkway station is just under 3 miles away with rail services to London Marylebone taking just under 40 minutes. When it comes to public transport, Arriva operate a score of local buses with regular routes around the town and direct buses out to Oxford.

Schools and education in Thame
If you’re considering one of our new houses for sale in Thame and are interested in local schools, there are plenty to choose from. For those who have younger members of the family, Ofsted rated good St Joseph’s, Barley Hill and John Hampden are solid choices. If your brood contains older children local secondary Lord Williams is rated as good, with outstanding features too.
