Kris and Anne get a Help to Buy
Crewe couple snap up first home with Help to Buy scheme

A Crewe couple have realised their dream of getting onto the housing ladder thanks to the Government’s Help to Buy scheme – and got a larger property than they expected in the process. Parents-to-be Kris and Anne Wood, both 28, had initially set their sights on buying a three-bedroom home together. But because Help to Buy requires just a five per cent deposit and 75 per cent mortgage to secure a property, teacher Kris and special needs teaching assistant Anne were able to afford a larger four-bedroom house instead. The remaining 20 per cent is provided by the Government as an equity loan, which is interest free for the first five years.
And the couple, who are expecting their first child in August could not be happier after moving into their new house at Bloor Homes’ Saxon Gate development on Parkers Road.
Anne said: “It’s a really exciting time for us with a new house and a baby on the way. “The Help to Buy scheme was a big incentive. It meant we could save less for a deposit and also get more house for our money. “In the end we were only saving for a deposit for just under 18 months, which is definitely quicker than we thought.“At first, we thought that a three-bedroom house is all we would be able to afford, so it was great to find out that with Help to Buy we could buy a bigger four-bedroom house instead.
“We looked at a few new developments but Bloor’s homes just had the nicest finish for us out of all of them and you received more value for money. The sales advisors were also lovely and a really big help. “We also found the financial advisors which Bloor offered so helpful. If I was to give one piece of advice, I’d say people should make the most of their help as we didn’t have to do a lot in terms of paper work as a result. “Using the Help to Buy scheme was very easy too.” Anne added: “It’s a great feeling now being homeowners. It’s nice to sit in our house and think ‘this is ours’ and unlike with a rental property, we don’t have to ask anyone’s permission to do anything within it.”
Tina Avis-Edwards, Regional Sales Director at Bloor Homes North West, said: “We know that buying a home can be a stressful experience, which is why we offer the services of Panel Solicitors and Financial Advisors to our customers to help ease the strain.“We’re delighted that Kris and Anne enjoyed such a hassle-free purchase using Help to Buy and that they are settling into their new home.”
