Bloor Homes has acquired the land for a new housing development in Stansted Mountfitchet.

The developer has purchased a 25-acre site off Cambridge Road in consortium with Martin Grant Homes.

Located to the north west of Walpole Farm, the development will comprise a total of 147 new homes, commercial premises, allotments, play areas and a community orchard.

Bloor Homes’ part of the development, known as Walpole Meadows, will include 73 homes, ranging from two-bedroom bungalows to five-bedroom houses.

As part of the scheme, Bloor Homes and Martin Grant Homes will provide land for educational use, seven full-size allotments, off-site highways improvements, and between them provide funding of £48,000 towards healthcare through a Section 106 legal agreement.

Planning permission for the development was granted by Uttlesford District Council in February last year, and construction work is due to begin on site next month (May).

Terry Tedder, Regional Managing Director for Bloor Homes Eastern, said: “We are delighted to have acquired the land for our Walpole Meadows development, which will deliver a range of high-quality new homes and outdoor amenities for the local community.

“Set within acres of green space, Walpole Meadows be an attractive extension to Stansted Mountfitchet, offering easy access to the village’s many amenities and mainline railway station.

“We look forward to starting work on the site next month, and aim to complete the first homes at the development this winter.”
