The development, which will be known as Thurmans Grove, will also include a new access road via The Josselyns and 1.47 acres of public open space.
There will be a range of two to four-bedroom homes, including seven bungalows, while 32 of the homes will be provided as affordable housing.
It is estimated that the development will directly create 127 jobs and indirectly create a further 96 jobs during the construction period.
Bloor Homes will be also providing funding of £340,950.95 for local services and infrastructure under the Community Infrastructure Levy.
Overall, it is estimated that the development will deliver an injection of £3.5 million into the local economy.
Andrew Marns, Regional Managing Director for Bloor Homes Eastern, said: “Our Thurmans Grove development will provide a range of much-needed high quality homes to meet local demand, as well as delivering a significant boost to the local economy and investment in local infrastructure.
“We are pleased to have commenced work on the site and we hope to complete the first homes at the development in the spring of next year.
“The homes at Thurmans Grove have been carefully designed to blend in sympathetically with their surroundings, and we look forward to welcoming visitors to the development when the sales office opens in the spring. Until then, appointments can be made to discuss our new homes in Trimley St Mary at our Mill Heath, Martlesham sales office.”
