The event was a great success for participants and spectators, thanks in part to sponsorship from developer Bloor Homes.
For the second year, the housebuilder, whose waterside Rowhedge Wharf development is located in the village, donated £1,000 towards the evening entertainment, which featured live music and a spectacular fireworks display.
The Regatta, which is believed to date back to the 18th century is the biggest event in Rowhedge’s social calendar and attracts thousands of visitors to the quayside every year.
Emma Potter, Chairlady of the organising committee, said: “The Rowhedge Regatta is the jewel in the crown of the village and it is a fantastic day for families.
“We have pulled together over the past few months to organise an engaging programme of entertainment and overall, we are extremely satisfied with how things went.
“However, we couldn’t have done this without the financial support from the local businesses, so we are immensely grateful to Bloor Homes and our other sponsors for their valuable assistance, which meant that we were able to once again exceed people’s expectations.”
The spectacular Regatta provided plenty of action on the water for the spectators, the fantastic sight of the glorious boats racing up the river, including the Brightlingsea One Designs (BOD’S), Most Smacks and the Cruisers. The event also featured a Down River Duck Race and Crabbing Competition.
Back on dry land, there were a variety of local craft and food stalls, dog show and kids fancy dress Sea Creatures theme competition. There were also games to keep the whole family entertained, Artillery re-enactment including firing canon, Punch and Judy, sponge stocks, face painting, coconut shy, hook-a-duck, traditional swing boats and merry-go-round.
Live music included a performance from several local bands, while the festivities concluded with the fireworks spectacular.
Monika Hanlon, Regional Sales Director at Bloor Homes Eastern, said: “Events like the Rowhedge Regatta present the community with a wonderful family-friendly experience.
“We were delighted to sponsor the Regatta for a second year and we are pleased that it was such an enjoyable event.”
