This year’s Rowhedge Regatta went off with a bang, thanks to sponsorship from developer Bloor Homes.

The housebuilder, whose brand new waterside development is located in the village, donated £1,000 to cover the cost of the evening entertainment, which featured live music and a spectacular fireworks display.

First held over a century ago, the regatta is the biggest event in Rowhedge’s social calendar, and draws crowds of thousands to the quayside every year.

This year’s event took place on Saturday 25th June, and organisers were successful in making it bigger and better than ever before.

Emma Potter, chairlady of the organising committee, said: “The Rowhedge Regatta is the jewel in the crown of the village and is a wonderful day out for all the family.

“We worked very hard over the past few months to organise a packed programme of entertainment and are thrilled that everyone had a fantastic time.

“We couldn’t do this without the financial assistance from local businesses, so we were extremely grateful to Bloor Homes and our other sponsors for their valuable support which means we can continue to deliver this fantastic event for the people of Rowhedge.”

As ever, the regatta featured plenty of action on the water, the fantastic sight of the glorious boats racing up the river, the Brightlingsea One Designs (BOD’S), Wivenhoe One Designs (WOD’s) and the Cruisers.

Back on dry land, there was a variety of craft and food stalls, face painting, an outer space-themed fancy dress competition for the children, and a dog show. There were also games to keep the whole family entertained, including hook-a-duck, a coconut shy and a tug-of-war.

Live music included a performance from the Harwich Sea Shanty Singers, while the festivities concluded with a firework spectacular.

Monika Hanlon, Regional Sales Director at Bloor Homes Eastern, said: “The Rowhedge Regatta is a wonderful family-friendly event which took place just a stone’s throw away from our Rowhedge Wharf development.

“We were delighted to sponsor this year’s regatta. We were thrilled by the positive response to our sales launch in May from the residents of Rowhedge and we were glad a great day was had by all.”
