Low bills, the convenience of moving into a ready-made home, and a warm welcome from her new neighbours made buying new the perfect choice for downsizer Hazel Carey.

The 58-year-old auxiliary nurse, who previously lived in Kesgrave, began the search for a home of her own after separating from her husband.
And she found her dream property in the shape of a two-bedroom semi-detached house at Mill Heath, Bloor Homes’ development in Martlesham, where she was struck not only by the friendliness of her neighbours but also how low her bills were compared to what she was paying in her old second-hand property.
Hazel said: “I didn’t want to move too far and as the Mill Heath development was just up the road, I decided to go and have a look.
“When I saw the houses I thought ‘wow’, but I didn’t think I would be able to afford to buy one on my own.
“It was only after speaking to the sales advisor and Bloor’s recommended mortgage advisor that I realised it was possible.
“After I put the deposit down I went and looked at the house practically every week, because I just couldn’t believe it was actually mine.”
Now settled into her home, Hazel says she is delighted with her purchase.
She said: “I love my house. It’s perfect for me in every way. Everything has been well-thought out. The staircase is wide, the bedrooms are spacious, and I love the way the lounge goes through to the kitchen.
“For me, new build was the ideal option as I’m on my own and I’m not the most practical person. I chose extras such as carpets, curtains and the patio, so everything was done for me. It was so easy and the sales advisors have been amazing.”
And thanks to the insulation and energy efficiency of the property, Hazel’s gas and electricity bills work out at a third of what she used to pay.
“I can’t believe how cheap it is to run.”, she said. “I have never had a house that has been so well insulated.”
Hazel has also been impressed by the strong sense of community among the neighbours at Mill Heath, having never lived in a new-build development before.
She said: “The neighbours are the best neighbours I could ever imagine. The people are just so lovely. Everybody welcomes everybody else, and as someone living on my own, that has been wonderful. It’s the perfect place.”
