Plans for a new Bloor Homes housing development in Melton, near Woodbridge have been given the ‘go-ahead’ after councillors voted in favour of the scheme.

The first phase of a planned 180-home development has been granted detailed planning permission to build on 20.4 acres land located to the north of Woods Lane (A1152) and east of the A12.

Outline planning permission for the scheme was granted in September 2015, and the developer is now preparing to start work at the site in August.

The proposed development, which has been named Longwood Fields, will comprise a range of two to five-bedroom homes, including two and three-bedroom bungalows. There will also be more than seven acres of open space and a new network of footpaths and cycleways on site.

Terry Tedder, Regional Managing Director for Bloor Homes Eastern, said: “There is a severe shortage of land for new homes in the Suffolk Coastal District and this site will help to deliver much-needed private and affordable housing for the area.

“We are therefore pleased to have received planning permission for the first phase of our Melton development, which is a vital step in bringing the scheme to fruition.
“The site is positioned in an attractive and sustainable location, close to the centre of both Woodbridge and Melton, and will provide a sensitive extension to the settlement of Woodbridge.

“Set amidst farmland and mixed woodland, the development will enhance existing areas of green space around the edge of the site, including the creation of a linear park with a children’s play area.

“The development will also provide improvements to schools, highways, open space, footpaths and cycle ways through the Community Infrastructure Levy requirement in excess of £2 million.”

“We are proud to be delivering 180 carefully designed new homes, which will cater for a range of lifestyles, from first time buyers to growing families and downsizers.

“Our sales office is expected to open in December 2017 and in the meantime prospective buyers are invited to register their interest on Bloor Homes website.”
