Construction work begins on former Severalls Hospital site

Bloor Homes has begun building the first homes on its part of the derelict former Severalls Hospital site in Colchester, as demolition work continues. Bloor is one of three house builders, along with Bellway and Taylor Wimpey, to be developing on the 300-acre site off Boxted Road.

When completed the development will comprise a total of 730 homes, 113 of which will be provided as affordable housing.

Bloor’s part of the development, Kingswood Heath, will feature 243 homes, ranging from one to four-bedroom properties, and large areas of green open space.

Monika Hanlon, Regional Sales Director at Bloor Homes Eastern, said: “We are extremely proud to be part of this exciting regeneration of the former Severalls Hospital site which will deliver much-needed housing for Colchester.

“We are pleased to announce that construction work on the first homes has now begun in earnest, and we hope to complete the first plots in March next year.

“Given the historic nature of the site, the development has unsurprisingly attracted a great deal of interest from the public, and we believe its attractive tree-lined setting will make it a popular choice with buyers.

“I would encourage prospective purchasers to register their interest with us now and we look forward to welcoming the first visitors to Kingswood Heath when the sales office opens in November.”

A total of 16 buildings across the entire Severalls site will be demolished. However, a number of landmark buildings, including the water tower and Administration Building will be preserved as part of the development.
